Using this directory

Keep Things Working describes existing solutions and links to their original projects for software and instructions. We write and maintain the directory's descriptions. Downloads and instructions remain on the original sites.

Choosing a solution

Check the exact device, operating system, requirements and limitations in the listing. Read the original instructions before installing anything. A solution may restore only some functions, require extra hardware or involve changes that are difficult to undo.

Our explanation of the listings describes how we distinguish published information, developer tests and other users' reports. Inclusion does not guarantee compatibility or certify software as secure. External software, instructions and websites can change after a listing is reviewed.

Where a procedure could affect stored information, make a suitable backup and check the removal or recovery instructions before proceeding. If those instructions are missing or unclear, ask the original project before making the change.

Our role and responsibility

We take care to describe solutions accurately and make important limitations clear. A listing is not a guarantee that software is safe, compatible with every setup or free from faults. Linked software can cause problems, including loss of data or disruption to equipment.

The original developers provide their software under their own licences and terms. We do not control their code, downloads or later changes. We remain responsible for the care we take with our own descriptions and for handling concerns about them. Linking to a project does not make us its developer or support provider.

Nothing on this page takes away your legal rights. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other responsibility that the law does not allow us to exclude.

Problems and corrections

If a description is wrong, a link appears unsafe or material has been used without permission, use the contribution form. Include the listing address and a short explanation. For a technical problem, give the device and software versions if known, what happened and a link to any relevant public issue. Leave out passwords, private logs and other people's personal information.

We review concerns and correct our descriptions when the evidence warrants it. A credible report of malware, serious data loss or a compromised destination can lead us to suspend a link or listing while we investigate. A listing may also be removed if its source can no longer support its claims.

The directory is not a technical support service. The original project's support instructions are usually the best route for help with its software; reports here help improve the information available to other owners.
